Gardening

 July 17, 2016

I cannot serve with English lawn. It is more of an experimental field, where I invite any bee - wild or honey - to stay here. And always like a little vacation. Only much closer.

I like my garden very much, except for one detail: it's too small. But that will come. Otherwise, I can no longer imagine life "without" it. Besides barbecues and a glass of white wine on a balmy summer night, this refuge simply offers me so much:

  • Meditation: Meditating in the sunshine is one thing. But to let the thoughts be thoughts and to be completely with oneself while plucking weeds has a great quality.
  • Living seasons: Strawberries in winter. Hardly. Apples in spring. No. At some point, everything is withered and full-grown. Then comes the fruit. And then the pulling back and resting until the next spring. In my quest to live the seasons more, especially in food, the garden reminds me and shows me again and again what's coming up. More than the supermarket, organic or not.
  • Feeling: As a self-confessed barefoot runner, I enjoy the meadow, the moss, the earth and the sand with every step.
  • Grounding: After a few days at the screen, reaching into the damp earth is really soothing. Best still with worm in it. After that it is also easier to type again.
  • Create: Raised bed and sandbox instead of from the hardware store simply handmade. The irrigation itself thought out and installed. A vine trellis lashed together, yes - there is always something to do - Yippiejaja-yippie-yippie-yeah
  • Feed: Gooseberries, strawberries, raspberries, red+black currants, blackberries, hazelnuts (well, just a few), tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, onions, radishes, carrots (and carrots 😉 ), rhubarb, cultivated and wild herbs, peaches, plums, pears, apples, ... Actually, everything there, right?
  • Specialties: I am fascinated by rarities and peculiarities. The apple tree bears 4 different varieties. The tomatoes range from the dark "Black Plum" to hairy tomatoes to the practical "travel tomato", which grows in equal portions. In the herb bed grows next to some mint varieties for tea also nettle for smoothies, where I also immediately use up the excess leaves from the vine. In the other corner still Jerusalem artichokes, with which you can also do a lot.
  • Working: Nature is one of my favorite places to work. The fresh air and the sounds of nature really get me into the flow. And almost nowhere am I as productive as with my notebook on the terrace or in a beach chair.

Just now about 5 bats are buzzing around above me. After my violent ear surgery last year, I'm happy to still hear them. How nice. Oh, I hear the hedgehog coming. I have to go. Good night.
