Understanding technology. Not forgetting people.

I still remember exactly how the first computer of my childhood captivated me. It wasn't the gaming that fascinated me, but the understanding. How does this work? What's behind it? What can you make of it?

That curiosity has never left me. It has carried me through 25 years of IT practice: through projects that worked, through ones that didn't, and through teams that experienced both. Today I work as a consultant and coach with companies like Volkswagen, OTTO, Raiffeisen International, Deutsche Bahn, Lufthansa, Bayer, and BASF. I have written 8 technical books: on agility, software testing, and test automation. And I speak at conferences in Germany and far beyond.

Awards and Experience

  • DPSQ 2025: German Prize for Software Quality, the most prestigious award in the German-speaking region, presented by the ASQF.
  • 8 technical books on software testing, agility, and test automation: reference works in the IT community, translated into several languages.
  • 100+ talks at international conferences, from OOP to STARTEST to company events in Germany, Austria, and the United States.
  • 25+ years of experience in software development, testing, agility, and coaching: not as theory, but as lived practice.

My Approach

With the emergence of agile methods in the early 2000s, something shifted for me. Methods alone aren't enough. Frameworks alone aren't either. What really decides things is the attitude behind them, and the people who live it.

That led me to coaching training. Systemic coaching, NLP, hypnosis: sounds far removed from software projects. But it isn't. The questions are the same: what is actually blocking things here? What needs to change for something to work? And who needs to do something differently for that to happen?

Today I combine both: deep technical knowledge and human understanding. This combination is what clients, participants, and audiences say distinguishes me from others. I take that as a compliment. And as a mandate.

Foundation and Craft

I don't like to make a big deal of certificates. But they represent real training programs, time I invested to get better at what I do. Not for the wall. For practice.

My Values

The Things That Drive Me

Attitude
Appreciation
Niklas Luhmann once said: "It could also be completely different." That sentence sounds trivial, and it isn't. It reminds me that my view of the world is one of many. Anyone who truly internalizes that encounters people differently. More openly. More calmly. With more curiosity.
Perspective
Technology Enthusiasm
Technology is the most powerful tool we have ever had to solve the problems that really matter to us. But tools are means, not ends. Anyone who forgets that builds great solutions for problems nobody has. People come first. Always.
Drive
Learning
I have been learning in this profession for 25 years and feel like I'm just getting started. Not as a pose. But because the topics go deeper the longer you're at it. What has taught me the most? People. Not books, not conferences. People.
